Avery

We just bought a new camera and thought it would be a point and shoot experience, not so. There is much to learn in the photography world; does anyone want an apprentice? These are the photos we did get of Avery and Kade. I think for a first timers we got a few good photos.

This is the same blessing dress that I was blessed in, how precious.

Kaden is so sweet with Avery. He wants to kiss her hands and feet all day long. He has done such an amazing job adjusting with the big change.

Such a sweet boy!

This picture captures Kaden's fun personality, always ready to have a good time.

Avery Eliza Hess

After much debate (and nearly a full day without a name) we decided to name Hess child #2 Avery Eliza Hess. She was born Friday 9/26 at 9:50 in the morning. Coming in at an astounding 6 lbs 2 0z and 19 inches long she seemed a bit undersized for a Hess child, but we wouldn't have her any other way. After an early morning call (6:00 am) to the hospital we gathered our things, dropped Kade off at the his Aunt Lindsey and Uncle Riley's house, then we hurried to the hospital where things were quickly prepped and MaRea was sent off to surgery to get her spinal block. After a few minutes of anxious waiting I was called into the room where she was ready to go.

MaRea's last pre-birth photo, waiting to go into surgery

The doctor's gloved up and started cutting. As they worked their way to the urteris we were nervous that I'd miss them extracting the baby (I chose to not watch Kaden be pulled from inside and we both regretted it) so MaRea commanded me to rise and start snapping photos. I made it just in time and watched as the docter reached inside my wife to pull out our daughter.

Our midwife holding her just after her birth.

On the cleaning table the nurses really worked her over. As she was screaming from the three sets of hands rubbing her down, and the constant flashes of my camera the docters were sewing up MaRea.

During the after birth scrubdown

Unlike Kaden, I was able to stay with MaRea as they finished stitching her up. It was nice to be there with her and I know she preffered to be with both of us, instead of waiting alone for nearly an hour to see her daughter.

Our first family photo

The two most beautiful females in the world!!

Kaden has been excited to see his baby sister. Since we told him he'd be sharing a room with her he's been excited to meet her. For the last couple of months he's been saving his popcorn, gummy vitamins, fruit snacks and just about any other treat for her arrival. He has a special drawer in our kitchen where he has stashed all his spoils. He is already prepared to show her the finer things in life.

We think he really likes her.

We have had a great stay in the hospital. With the exception the nurses thinking someone stole her, (the ankle bracelet came off in the laundry and locked down the hospital) and some nasty food it's been a wonderful time to relax and get to know our new daughter. Not to mention for MaRea to heal from her major surgery. We are back to normal life tomorrow, and we want to thank everyone for your help (especially Lindsey and Riley for playing fill-in mom and dad). On a last note Brent and Melissa stopped by last night and we compared babies. Brooklynn is only 16 days older than Avery. Who do you think would win in a wrestling match???

Brooklynn and Avery.

Any last creative Ideas?

We have one last day to see if this baby wants to turn head down. I have tried all kinds of weird exercises my midwife suggested that might help the baby turn, nothing has worked. I am open for any last suggestions that have worked on you, or someone you may know. Otherwise we are set to go into the hospital at 7:00 A.M. Friday. Once again my biggest nightmare a C-Section!!!!

We are still undecided on what we want to name her. Cast your vote and it just might help us put and end to the great debate of the name of the Hess baby.

Labor Day Weekend

We have been slacking on blogging lately. I can't believe it's already September where did August go? We hiked Mount Timpanogos Cave on Labor Day. The weather was perfect for hiking in the high 70's. The whole hike takes about 4 hours so plan a Saturday to go and enjoy the beautiful fall weather.

Kaden made it about half way up, the Kelty backpack is a must have for anyone who enjoys hiking. It has made it possible for Kyle and I to still do what we love even with a kid.
This was at the opening of the Cave. The Cave takes about an hour to go through.

We tried to get some good photos of the cave but, non of them really turned out.

Dinosaur Museum

We have the largest Dinosaur museum in the world here in Utah. It's true I didn't believe it until we went. For the month of August they were having $2.00 Tuesdays so Lindsey, Melanie and I went with the kids. They loved seeing the big Dinosaurs .

They have a play area were the kids to to find fossils in the sand. The could have played in the sand for hours, but of course Kaden had to end the fun with throwing sand and other kids.

Kaden turned 3 years old!!! Where does the time fly? We had a Dinosaur birthday party for him.

The new baby is coming soon. We are hoping that she decides to turn the right way. My last visit my midwife tried to turn the baby, but she went right back to the same spot that she has been in the whole time seconds after the midwife tried to turn her. For right now the date is September 25th for the C-section, unless anything changes.

We are pretty set on the name Avery, but would love to find a name that we love more. Anyone who has any suggestions PLEASE send them our way. It 's so hard to find a name that you LOVE!!!

Las Vegas

Thanks to the my brother Travis, MaRea and I had a free hotel for thee nights in Vegas. He even offered to watch Kaden so that meant our first trip without him, EVER!! Neither of us realized how much attention he requires and it was nice to be able to relax without him. We did call and talk to him one morning and quickly learned that was a mistake when the only thing he could say was, in a whiny tone, "You come pick me up daddy?" Our conversation lasted long enough for him to break down crying. We felt only a little guilty.

The second best highlight was MaRea nearly passing out during the Treasure Island pirate show. At 8:30 it was still well above 100 degrees and combination of a packed crowd, lack of water and pregnancy she needed to lay down for a minute. Luckily a security guard was quick to respond with cold water and a cold rag. She quickly recovered. The best highlight of the weekend was the Cirque de Soleil show KA we attended Saturday night. The cheapest tickets were 70 dollars a piece, but the seats were still great. This was my second Cirque show and MaRea's first. If you haven't seen one they are well worth the price of admission. I'm afraid I can adequately describe what it was like so take a look at the trailer.

Memories. . . .

1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn't matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember!
2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It's actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I'll assume you're playing the game and I'll come to your blog and leave one about you.

Summer Fun

We have been a little lazy in posting this summer. This is what we have been doing the past month.

Endless trips to Logan

Kyle took the girls out boating for the 1st time this summer. They all got up and were proud of themselves. Angie thought she could get Kade started early on the wake board. For some reason I don't think he got past trying to put his feet in the large boots. My mom teaches a cooking class to Angie's friends every Wednesday, we were lucky enough to catch the class on homemade bread and strawberry jam.

California
We took a trip out to visit Mark and Shari last month. Kaden loved playing with his cousins. He followed Luke around the whole time, I'm sure Luke was a little happy to see Kaden go. Mark and Shari have a cute little turtle in their backyard that Kaden loved feeding.

Kaden thinking he was really funny on the airplane. Can you tell he is sleeping?

Kaden having a ball in the pool in California.

This is the cute turtle that Kade thought was fun to feed.

CARNIVAL

Kade thought the chicken ride was great, Jack was not to impressed he wanted off as soon as he got on.

The Army starts recruiting for their soldiers at a young age.

CAMPING

GOLFING

Kyle has found a new love in his life. I was hoping he would not catch the passion for golf like Brent. I am now waiting for him to get good. The harder he tries to get his swing down I think the worse he gets. I'm sure all those hundreds of buckets of balls will pay off on the course.

Kaden's favorite thing to do is practice putting on the greens. He is so proud of himself for getting the ball in the hole. He puts the ball 2" from the whole and taps it in. Maybe that is what his dad needs to start doing.

Bear Lake Carson and Kade playing in the water. Two boys and one truck never works. Taking turns just doesn't work for two year olds. Kaden ended up pushing Carson and grabbing the truck. It was cute Carson just said " I want my mama, I want my mama." The fun can only last so long.

The four wheelers were the only thing Kaden could think about the whole time we were on the farm and at Bear Lake. The Little one is by far his favorite.

Tearing down the "Old Farm House"
Mom's dream came true the old farm house was torn down. It was actually a little sad. We all had so many great memories with it throughout our lives. It never got old no matter how many times we took our friends in and scared them at night. I think it was Paul and Dan who set up the old house to scare their dates. The glowing eyes in the corners and the doors that would just shut always scared me and I knew what to expect.

The boys were in heaven !!! Is there more to say than these pictures

What's a Women?

This story is way too funny not to share with everyone. We had all decided to go to the Logan pool to go swimming for the day. I said that I would pick up some subs. My mom and Kaden were waiting in the truck at Subway while I went in to get 6 foot long subs for the large Thatcher crew. This girl walked in after me she looked like she was around 21, long blond hair, high heels, and all dolled up. Let's just say she didn't look like she had just got done doing the laundry, moping the floors, and changing diapers. Kaden obviously noticed her also he asked my mom.

Kaden says " Nama who's that?"
My mom says " she's probably a mommy."
Kaden replies " Her's not a mommy, hers a WOMEN!!!"

I think I've laughed harder at that comment than anything he has ever said. At what point do us mothers just become mommy's and not women to our children, I guess I need to start pulling out the high heels to mop the floor, so my boy understands that I'm a Women.

Read It!!

One of Kyle's dreams is to write a book; personally I couldn't think of anything more miserable English 2010 on my mind everyday!! Aren't we glad that some people find writing fun and relaxing? This is the first part of the story you can find the rest of the nail biting fiction on his blog. http://thefestivusmiracle.blogspot.com

Fiction: Part 1

The silence this night was like a piercing blade run through his soul. He searched the corridors of his mind looking for a way to break it. He could find nothing. As he continued searching for what to say he found a spot on the slow turning ceiling fan above the bed. He followed it around and around. He started counting the revolutions of the blade, 5… 6… 7… It felt crucial that he not loose track of the spot and for those few moments the silence was gone. Then just as he reached twenty revolutions she let out a sigh and rolled over. With that little movement it returned. He knew she was telling him that she was not done. That she felt the silence too. She would not allow him to be distracted. She would not allow him to ignore what he has to do. But why do I always have to do it he thought, why am I always the one in the wrong. His mind played over the reasons why she was being unreasonable. It was obvious as he examined the moment in his mind that he was victim and she was the perpetrator. It was not his responsibility to break the silence, it was hers. Relief came over him. He was vindicated knowing that it was up to her to find the words. With his new found acquittal he rolled over and allowed his mind to begin to shut down.

After another ten minutes had passed the blanket and sheet flew up where his wife was laying and as quickly as he could turn to see her she left the room. He sat up and heard the garage door open and the car start.

Are you kidding me he thought how could she be so immature. Why can’t she just admit that she is wrong and apologize?

This was the first time she had left the house during an argument. He sat up in bed analyzing the situation. Should he try and find her? Should he wait it out? He stood up slipped on his flip flops and grabbed an old high school t-shirt from the closet. With little hope he decided to try and find her. He backed out of the driveway and turned towards the highway. When he reached the stop sign he decided to turn south thinking that she went to the grocery store. With a lurch the 2000 Toyota Camry engaged it six cylinders and sped towards the store five miles ahead.

He spent the 5 minutes thinking about their argument. He still was having a difficult time accepting any responsibility. He could not understand why she would be so mad. She knew he loved her, didn’t she? Then why would she take so much offense. As the lights from the store grew brighter he realized that it would be up to him to apologize or this would not go away like it normally does. He noticed some flashing lights in front of the store. At first sight he thought they were the street lights flashing red during the midnight hours then he noticed the blue mixed with the red and his heart sank. He felt like his soul was sucked out of him with a high powered vacuum. His eyes frantically searched the cars ahead looking for the white BMW she loved so much. All he could see was the three cop cars, and the two ambulances which seemed to be blocking another car.

His mind now racing through every possible scenario but they all came back to one, it was her car. He approached the cop directing the minimal traffic and leaned forward with his face directly above the steering wheel. The second he drew even with the cop he could see the scene. He felt the blood leave his body and his face turn pale white. The 03 BMW was on his back with driver’s side completely demolished. With no feeling he slammed the Toyota in park and jumped out. Examining the wreckage he saw a SUV with the engine sitting in the front cab. At the back of one of the ambulances he noticed a pair of teenagers being attended by a police officer.

“Where is she? What happened? Is she ok?” he shouted at the officer.

She pointed to the second ambulance and with sympathy said, “She’s over there.”

All he could do was hope for anything but the worst. But as he approached the ambulance he heard the familiar sound of beep, beep turn to one long beep.

He knew what it meant. She was gone and he just missed her. He turned around and looked up into the back of the ambulance. The two paramedics looked back at him and then at each other. Without a word they both stepped outside the ambulance. Mack stepped up and saw her eyes looking up but seeing nothing. Every emotion he had ever felt came bubbling over at once. All he could do was hold her. As he placed his cheek on hers he felt his tears pass down his face to hers. “No, No, No” were the only words he could find.

“Excuse me, Mr. Williams,” said a rusty voice from behind him. The old sheriff took off his stiff brimmed hat and bowed his head. “Mr. Williams, we tried everything we could, you have our deepest sympathies.”

Mack could barely make out the face of the sheriff through his watery eyes, but through his tone he felt the sheriff's sincerity.

“But we were able to save her,” and the sheriff passed along a bundle of blankets which muffled the whimpering coming from inside.

Stay tuned.....

Kyle would love to hear your feedback good and bad so leave a comment and continue reading on his blog. http://thefestivusmiracle.blogspot.com

Fishing

Is there anything cuter than a little boy and his dad fishing? This is one of those weird dreams I've had since a I was young, the day my husband would take my boy fishing. I promised Kaden as we were driving to the hospital when he broke his arm last week that if he was really tuff his dad would take him fishing.
Kyle being bugged at me for not getting the perfect picture the frist shot. Kaden looks great!
Kaden at Walmart picking out his fishing pole. We ended up tricking him into getting they non spiderman one. The one we picked for him was a little big, we should have listened to him.
These two pictures were worth the whole fishing trip. It doesn't get any better than this. I am so greatful for all the amazing things that surround us in this world. I love doing anything as long as it is outside.
